I had caught a cold (the one which is very common) just a week before so I was not complaining much about the weather going bad...but still you have to agree, even with a cold and a bit of a temperature you don’t much appreciate that weather!!
And then there was the whole emigration process and a 9 hour flight journey (out of which I slept for around 8 hours...I was trying to avoid the jet lag...didn’t really work!!), and finally our plane was above the city of London!!!
Oh can I explain that feeling...I guess I can’t!! The feeling was mutual to Sheldon's when Penny gives him Leonerd Nimoy’s autographed and used napkin, and he actually hugs her, not because of a social convention but because he feels like it! I have read articles which say London is a city which turn your dreams into reality...I don’t know how valid is that but in my case the mere fact of being in London was more than a dream come true! I mean my childhood dream of coming to this city was finally coming true! I am sure even when I was in my mother’s womb I must have heard my parents talking about what all they did when they were living in London. My winter wear for all these years has been from this magnificient city (I have never bought sweaters in India or anywhere else....rather I have never bought sweaters...they were all bought here...how cool is that!!).
Since the time I started talking (which was very early) I have told people (or rather lied to them...I was a kid and it was an innocent lie) about how I have been to the Thames River and how I have played around the parks there! I promised my friend, Shyam Babu (who was also our driver) that he and I will go to London and when he’ll ask about the finances, I would say with overconfidence, “Aamar kaache aache to 2 Taka” (Taka being the Bangladeshi currency which trust me where only 2 Taka is not strong enough to take us to London!!). And there I was sitting on that aisle seat...my flight landing in the Heathrow Airport (which is humungous and I just saw Terminal 5!!)
There are so many things which I have heard from my parents and I finally get to do all of that! Like finally I shopped in the blue and white Tesco bag and I went to Sainsbury!! And I have always played with my Dad’s Lloyds’ file and pass book. I was always fascinated with the black horse on the dark green background...so sexy!! And today I have my own account in the bank, where my father had an account thirty years back!! (Talk about dreams coming true!)
Sometimes I still can’t believe that I am actually living in England....!! But yes I am....and I go through a wonderful exciting vibe everyday!!!
